Obituary

Florance Roush, age 83, of Sauk Centre, MN, and formerly a longtime resident of Villard, MN, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at CentraCare Hospital in Sauk Centre.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood.  Rev. Krista Lee will be officiating.  Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. on Thursday and from 10:00 - 11:00 A.M. on Friday.  Interment will be in Lake Amelia Cemetery, Villard, MN. Florance Mae Roush was born on a farm near De Graff, MN, on September 16, 1930, to Herman and Gladys (Cramlet) Schwendemann.  She was baptized and confirmed by Reverend Rohne at the Rolling Forks Lutheran Church, Terrace, MN and was one of five students that graduated from 8th grade, District 14, Pope County on June 18, 1946. On March 12, 1947, at the age 16, Florance married the love of her life, Owen Roush Jr., at the Rolling Forks Lutheran Church with Reverend Rohne officiating.  The two made their home in rural Villard where they raised their 5 children:  Kenneth, Edna, Carol, Brenda, and JoAnn.  They were blessed with 58 years of marriage before Owen passed away in 2005. Florance had several part time jobs while raising their children, but her favorite was driving school bus for Villard and Minnewaska schools.  In her free time she enjoyed camping and fishing with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  She was able to take many bucket list trips to places she wished to visit including Iowa, Colorado, Florida, Arizona, Nevada, California, Branson, MO, the Golden Gate Bridge, and for her 80th birthday, Niagara Falls.  She called her flower gardens her "soul food" and she collected rose plates from family and friends.  Her angel collection got out of control, but she loved every one of them.  After giving hundreds away she was still overstocked, but always said, "Really can anyone have too many angel friends?" Music always spoke to Florance and Junior.  They square danced for over 30 years, with Florance making most of their dance clothes.  When her dancing days were over she was able to sell many of her dresses and it pleased her to know that her dresses were twirling in 12 states. In March of 2012, Florance was diagnosed with colon/rectal cancer.  That September she moved to an apartment at Riverview Manor in Sauk Centre, MN.   After living on the farm for 60 years, the move was very difficult, but she made many new friends and eventually sold the farm on August 14, 2013. In the last few years, on Saturday nights, you would find Florance listening to great music on RFD, a television channel, and dancing around her kitchen table.  She fought the good fight, meeting the challenges of surgeries, blockages, hospital and nursing home stays.  During this time she learned to cherish time spent with her family and friends, all of whom will very much miss her pies, cookies, hugs, and laughter.  There was nothing more important to Florance than God, family, and friends.  God bless the memory of Florance Roush. Florance is survived by her children, Kenneth (Gail) Roush, Anoka, MN; Edna (Ron) Goracke, Alexandria, MN; Carol (Craig) Nordmeyer, Sparks, NV; Brenda (Mike) Eltgroth, Sauk Centre, MN; JoAnn (Ted) Schluter Lee, Murphy, NC; grandchildren: Shawn (Kim) Roush; Tammy Roush; Gary Goracke; Tracy (Stewart) Klug; Mary (Jeff) Peterson; Robin (Gladstone) Payton; Toni (Brian) Diede; Brett Nordmeyer; Trevor Jakubas; Lucinda Schluter; Joshua Schluter; great-grandchildren: Skyler Roush; Lillianna, Breanna, and Jackson Roush; Andrew Goracke; Austin and Autumn Klug; Kaitlynne and Cheyanne Peterson; Campbell Payton; Dakota Nordmeyer.
