Gary Reed, age 73 of Glenwood, died Saturday May 20, 2023 at the St. Cloud Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in St. Donatus Catholic Cemetery in Brooten. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Gary Gene Reed, the son of Howard and Iva (Medalen) Reed was born March 28, 1950 in Melrose, Minnesota. His parents had two children and Gary was the second son born, joining his brother Allen. He grew up on a farm and attended school in Brooten. Gary graduated from Brooten High School in 1968.

On September 9, 1968 Gary was united in marriage to Maylinda Karger in Milbank, South Dakota. This marriage was blessed with three children. Gary and Maylinda made their home in various places in Minnesota and Wisconsin until 1995 when they settled in their current home in Glenwood. Gary was employed as a propane company manager for many years. He worked for various companies in the towns he lived in. Most recently he was hauling chemicals for Belgrade Coop.

Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, gardening and anything outdoors. He loved mini golf, cooking and feeding the birds. Gary especially loved taking care of his beloved wife and anyone he loved. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity and for helping others. He was an honorable man who will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maylinda Reed; son, Jonathan (Amanda) Reed of Hoffman; daughter, Julie (Brian Halverson) Reed of Park Rapids; grandchildren: Nathan, Alexis, Daniel and Jakob Reed; great-grandchildren; Ariya, Aurora and Aston Reed; brother, Allen (Ellen) Reed of Warrenville, IL; other relatives and friends.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and an infant daughter, Catherine Reed.
