Obituary

Gudrun Stivland, 101, of Glenwood died November 28, 2015 at Glenwood Retirement Village surrounded by family.  Funeral services will be held Friday, December 4, 2015 at 1:30 pm, at All Saints Chapel, Glenwood Retirement Village with Pastors Duane Danielson and Bonnie Loman officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the chapel.   Internment will take place at the Norunga Cemetery, Lowry, Minnesota.

Gudrun Norland Stivland, daughter of Carl and Inga Norland was born on May 11, 1914 at the family farm near Thompson, Iowa.  When she was 4 the family moved to a farm south of Starbuck, Minnesota.  After one year they moved to a farm north of Starbuck where she grew up.

Gudrun was confirmed by Rev. G. O. Forde at Inherred Lutheran Church.  She attended school at Sunnyside District 3 through 8 th grade.  She started working at age 14 for families in the community wherever needed and also helped out at home.

On June 1, 1940 she was married to Ralph Stivland at Inherred Church.  After their marriage they farmed near Lowry, raising beef cattle and hogs, growing corn, soybeans, wheat, oats and other crops.  They retired after many years and lived several years at Parkview Court in Glenwood.

Gudrun was well known for her doughnuts, lefse, and bread. She was active in Norunga Church activities.

She is survived by her  son, Sid and daughter-in-law Gail Stivland, of Plymouth, MN, her daughter Anna and son-in-law Robert Olsen of Kinnelon, NJ, two grandsons, Aanen and his wife Danielle Olsen, Leif and his wife Noelle Olsen, and 5 great grandchildren, Lars, Caroline, Amelia, Henrik, and Mason, all of Kinnelon, NJ, a sister-in-law, Sylvia Norland of Montevideo, MN, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gudrun was preceded in death by her husband Ralph in 1997; her parents; two sisters, Esther Norland Anderson and Clara Norland Yell; five brothers, Clifford Norland, Hiram Norland, Lester Norland, Norman Norland, and Ralph Norland; and many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Gudrun's favorite charity was the Hearts and Hands food pantry in Glenwood.  Memorial donations there would be most welcome.
