Harlan L. Swenson, age 89, of Morris, MN, died Thursday, December 18, 2014, at West Wind Village in Morris. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 22, at First Lutheran Church in Kensington. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Monday at the church. Interment will be in in First Lutheran Cemetery, Kensington. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Harlan LeRoy Swenson was born in Kensington, MN, on September 19, 1925, to Roy and Alice (Holm-Nordlund) Swenson. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Nora Church in Kensington and confirmed there in 1940. He later became a member of First Lutheran Church in Kensington. Harlan attended District #50 country school. He had several jobs over the course of his working years as an agricultural laborer. Harlan worked for Lester Swenson, Roy Johnson, Dr. Leslie Stock, Paul Stark and others.
Harlan enjoyed going to movies, fishing, playing cards, visiting friends and traveling. Upon his retirement he purchased a small mobile home and lived in Kensington. He shared his home with two cats, Mickey and Muffin. Harlan later moved to the Hoffman Good Samaritan Society, where he lived from July 2006 until April 2012, when he moved to the West Wind Village in Morris, where he resided until his death on Thursday, December 18, 2014.
Harlan was a kind, gentle and quiet man. He will be missed.
Harlan is survived by his sister, Sandra Blasing of Kensington; three nieces, Debralee (Dean) Maanum of Fergus Falls, MN, Nancy (Wade) Lueck of Brandon, MN, and Karen (Rod) Odenthal of Wasilla, AK.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Jimmy Blasing.
