Harold John Boerboom, age 87, of Glenwood, died Saturday, January 17, 2015, at Mother of Mercy Nursing Home in Albany, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 21st at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Fr. Michael Wolfbauer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior the service at the church on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in rural Villard.
Harold John Boerboom the son of William and Anna (Stassen) Boerboom was born October 18, 1927 in Ghent, Minnesota. He grew up in Ghent and attended St. Eloi Catholic School. After 8th grade at the age of 13, he attended Nazareth Hall Minor Seminary. In 11th grade he transferred to Marshall High School and finished the 11th grade and then began trucking for his dad. He was employed at various jobs and then as a church candle salesman for A.I. Root Company before starting his own company, H.J. Boerboom & Assoicates, selling candles to many of the Catholic Churches in Minnesota.
Harold met Patricia McKay in 1945. On June 8, 1950, the couple was united in marriage in Marshall, Minnesota. They made their home in Minneapolis until 1983, when they moved to the Villard/Glenwood area.
Harold was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was the State Vice President of the Jaycees in Marshall, Minnesota. He enjoyed golfing and for more than 50 consecutive years he attended a retreat at the Jesuit Retreat House- Demontreville, Lake Elmo, Minnesota.
Harold will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and his jokes; the ones he played as well as the ones played on him. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and will be truly missed.
Harold is survived by his wife of 64 years, Patricia of Glenwood; son, Tom (Colleen) Boerboom of Richfield, MN; daughters, Pam (Steve) Gligor of Minneapolis, Kathy (Mark) Low of Savage, MN and Debbie (Greg) Solum of Fort Meyers, FL; son-in-law, Grant Torfin; 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Bromen of Marshall; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Boerboom; daughter, Patty Torfin; brothers, Donald, William and Richard Boerboom; and sisters, Agnes Wyffels, Margaret Fox and Shirley Verschaetse.
