Jason R. Rooney, age 33, of Las Vegas, NV, and formerly of Starbuck, MN, died unexpectedly on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, June 26, at Indherred Lutheran Church in Starbuck. Visitation will be held Thursday from 4 - 7 PM at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Indherred Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Jason Robert Rooney, son of Karen Aubart (Majerus) and Daniel Rooney, was born on July 11, 1981, in Alexandria, MN.  He was baptized on August 2, 1981, at St. Donatus in Brooten, and confirmed on April 28, 1996 at Indherred Lutheran.  Growing up on a farm near Starbuck, Jason was involved in Boy Scouts and 4-H.  He attended Starbuck Elementary School before graduating from Minnewaska High School in 1999.  Following graduation, Jason attended St. Cloud Technical School in St. Cloud, receiving a degree in Auto Body repair.  He worked various jobs around the St. Cloud area before moving to Brooten to accept a position as a team leader with Bayer Built Woodworks in Belgrade.  In 2011, Jason started his own business with Justin Brower called "Unique Finishing and Painting".  In 2013, Jason moved to Las Vegas, NV, with his soul-mate, Heather Schmitz, to begin a new adventure.  For the past 1 ½ years he has been employed doing security for El Cortez Casino.

Jason was an avid MN Vikings fan and great sports statistician.   He also enjoyed playing poker and was a professional sport's better.  He will be remembered by those who knew him as kind, caring, loving, thoughtful and patient.

He is survived by his soul-mate, Heather Schmitz of Las Vegas, NV; mother and step-father, Karen and Larry Aubart of Starbuck, MN; sister, Amy (Jason) VanZee of Glenwood, MN; brothers, Patrick (Nicole) Rooney of Glenwood, Nick Aubart of Big Lake, and Russ (Angie Wuornos) Aubart of Zimmerman; his beloved nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Jason was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Rooney in 2014; his paternal grandparents; and his maternal grandmother.
