Obituary

Juanita Kay Peterson was born in Glenwood on July 2, 1969 to Robert & Eunice Foss Peterson.  She grew up on the family farm south of town and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1987.  She was an aggressive basketball player from elementary through high school.  After graduation she attended Dawson Community College in Glendive, Montana to study law enforcement.  She returned to her hometown and worked for several years at the Douglas County sheriff's office as a dispatcher.  She then purchased a home in Brooten, working at the Ka De Shack and at Offutt farms. Juanita was the apple of her father's eye.  From an early age they worked side by side on the farm in the field, milking cows and even castrating pigs – a skill she claimed with pride at opportune moments.  She preferred being active outdoors at work or play with all the opportunities a farm affords.  She also had a special knack with children and was a favorite neighborhood babysitter as well as a favorite aunt to her nieces and nephews.  Under her leadership they had grand and memorable adventures on their visits to grandma and grandpa's farm. Juanita faded away quietly at her home in Brooten on April 1, 2015, at 45 years of age.  Her beautiful blue eyes will live on as an organ donation.   She is survived by her partner, Brian Samuelson, her parents, ten siblings: Herb & Elaine Peterson; Harvey & Karen Peterson; Dan & Lynn Peterson; Marilyn Peterson, Phil & Ivy Peterson; Vern & Mari Peterson; Merlin Peterson; Lynn & Lisa Peterson; Lynette & Chad Martin; and Kent Peterson.  She is also survived by sister-in-law, Pat Peterson; 34 nieces and nephews and a large extended family.  She was preceded in death by brother Keith in 2008. A memorial service for Juanita Peterson will be held at Barsness Lutheran Church on Saturday, April 4 at 11 o'clock, Rev. Bonnie Lomen officiating, with inurnment following in the Barsness Cemetery.  Arrangements were made through Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home. Memorials are preferred to Barsness Lutheran Church 150th Anniversary fund and the Pope County Museum.
