Julian Ogdahl, age 94 of Glenwood, died surrounded by his family on Saturday April 2, 2016 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 6 th at All Saint's Chapel in the Glenwood Retirement Village with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the chapel. Interment will be in Barsness Lutheran Cemetery in rural Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Julian Anton Ogdahl, the son of Anton and Theolina "Tille" (Dalager) Ogdahl was born June 12, 1921 in Glenwood. Julian grew up on a farm south of Glenwood where he attended country school. Julian entered the United States Navy on June 10, 1942. He served his country during WWII and was honorably discharged on October 23, 1945. After the service, Julian farmed briefly then began working for a creamery for a few years, before he started working as a carman for the Soo Line Railroad. He continued to work for the railroad for over twenty years until his retirement.
On April 5, 1945, Julian was united in marriage to Mary Esliger in Glenwood. Julian and Mary "Dolly" made their home in Glenwood and this marriage was blessed with two children. Julian was a life member of the Glenwood VFW and belonged to the Railroad Credit Union. He was an active member of Barsness Lutheran Church, serving as deacon, senior usher and was on the cemetery board for Barsness Lutheran Cemetery where he was the sexton. In his youth Julian enjoyed hunting and fishing. He enjoyed watching baseball, loved old cars and enjoyed walking. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Julian is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mary "Dolly" Ogdahl; daughter, Sandra Mielke of Ely, MN; son, Tony (Bonnie) Ogdahl of Willmar; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Clifford (Millie) Ogdahl of Glenwood; sister-in-law, Eleanor Ogdahl of Glenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Sherman Mielke; grandson in infancy, David Mielke; and siblings, Lester Ogdahl, Gladys Helling, Norma Johnson, Thelma Orin, Abner Ogdahl and Ernest Ogdahl in infancy.
