Katherine "Kathy" Gilbertson age 69 of Starbuck, died at home on Wednesday, October 8, 2014.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, October 13th at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment will be in Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Katherine "Kathy" Marie Gilbertson, the daughter of Ervin and Dorothy (Ekblad) Goehring was born December 24, 1944 in Willmar, Minnesota.  She grew up on a farm near Forada.  She attended school in Alexandria and furthered her education taking dietary classes at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.  Kathy was united in marriage to Larry Holder and this union was blessed with four children. Kathy and Larry later divorced.  Kathy worked as the dietary supervisor for the Glenwood Lakeview Good Samaritan Center in Glenwood for 28 years. On February 14, 1990, Kathy was united in marriage to Lawrence Gilbertson in Las Vegas, NV.  After their marriage they made their home in Glenwood until 2004, when they moved to Starbuck.  Kathy and Lawrence shared 16 years of marriage before Lawrence passed away in 2006. Kathy was an active member of the Glenwood VFW auxiliary, Glenwood Lutheran church and the AA fellowship.   She enjoyed volunteering and delivering meals on wheels.  Kathy also enjoyed crafting, painting, going for walks, and "running away" to the casino.  She especially loved spending as much time as possible with her family and friends and taking rides to the DQ with her beloved dogs, Gizmo and Brandy.  Kathy will be remembered for her great meals, humming, the most beautiful Christmas tree every year, her kindness to anyone in need, the love for her family, her sense of humor, and her true spirit for life.  Most of all, Kathy will be remembered for her smile that lit up the room. Kathy is survived by her sons: Marty (Rhonda) Holder of Annandale and Aron (Cindy) Holder of Alexandria: daughters, Kristine (Nolan) DeWitt of New Port and Kimberly Moe of Glenwood;  grandchildren, Missy (Doni), Jesse (Jorma), Nicky (Brandon), Meghan (Dan), Ericka, Christopher, Gary, Nick (Angie), Dillian, Danny, Sean, Sam, Madilyn, Shelby, Coty, Tyler, Hannah, Jaden, Brianna, Josh and Brittney; great-grandchildren, Dakota, Chaz, Eli, Arianna, Mariah, Kelsi, Damien, Jace, Jon, Kaylee, Brea, Kiana, and Corben; sisters, Pat Zaffke of Glenwood, Donna (Gary) Martin of Glenwood and Tammy (Jerry) Goehring of Minneapolis; brother, Jim (Jean) Goehring of Glenwood; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Ervin Goehring; husband, Lawrence Gilbertson; sister, Pam Goehring; and son-in-law, Jon Moe.
