Obituary

LaVerne H. Bogie, age 92, of Glenwood, MN, died Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Glenwood Village Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. on Tuesday, October 11 th , at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, with Rev. Randy Chrissis officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home and will continue there on Tuesday, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Glenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

LaVerne H. Branby was born January 6, 1924, in Glenwood, MN, to Henry and Agnes (Lea) Branby. She and her two siblings were raised on the family farm near Barsness Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed. She attended school in Glenwood and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1941. Following graduation, she worked as a waitress at Wimpy's Cafe while she waited for her high school sweetheart, King Bogie, to return from his military service in World War II. The two were united in marriage on January 19, 1946 at Barsness Lutheran Church. They made their home in Glenwood and their marriage was blessed with three sons, Steve, Doug, and Daniel.

For many years LaVerne worked as a receptionist for local dentists Dr. Jim Gilman and Dr. Michael Greene. Following her retirement, she and King spent many winters down south, primarily in Arizona, and their summers back in Glenwood. For over 60 years LaVerne enjoyed playing cards with her very dear and longtime girlfriends who made up the group known simply as "the club". Her other hobbies included ceramics, crafts, needlepoint and tending to her flower and vegetable gardens. LaVerne was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a longtime member of Glenwood Lutheran Church.

LaVerne died early Saturday, October 8, 2016, at Glenwood Village Care Center having reached the age of 92. She was a wonderful and gracious homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by her family

LaVerne is survived by her three sons, Steve and wife Becky of Rice, Doug and wife Donna of Farwell, and Daniel and wife Gail of Worthington; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; her sister, Helen Hansen of Mankato; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Bogie of Glenwood and Genora Bogie of Benson; as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, King, in 2005; and her brother, Richard Branby.
