Leona "Nona"
D. (Demoruelle) Bohmer
Jul 14, 1926 — Mar 8, 2026
Leona "Nona" Demoruelle Brady Bohmer, age 99, of Harahan, Louisiana passed away peacefully at home on March 8, 2026. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 19th, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brooten. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Brooten.
Leona was born on July, 14, 1926 in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Victor Jr. and Leona (Daniel) Demoruelle. She had an early interest in her ballet lessons, as well as family visits to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. After graduating from McMain High School in 1944, her career journey began at Godcheaux's Department Store. Later her employment included Personnel Manager, Charles Dennery, Inc., Hospital Volunteer Coordinator at East General Hospital and Recreation Director at Magnolia School.
Leona was united in marriage to Warren Roy Brady on May 9, 1947. They shared 33 years of marriage before Warren died in 1980.
Her compassion and affection for those needing help was boundless. Both in her professional life and in her free time, she gave selflessly and wholeheartedly as a Hospital Volunteer, a Zoo Volunteer, and her many years of work at Magnolia School, an institution for those with developmental disabilities. She was able to fulfill a lifelong wish to go on a photo safari curated by Richard Leakey, renowned Kenyan Conservationist and Fossil hunter.
Leona married John O. Bohmer of Brooten, on July 22, 2003. During their marriage, she and John shared many wonderful experiences in Brooten and Palm Bay, Florida, exemplified by the vintage car rallies, motor home excursions, and travel to many distinctive locales (Norway, the Amazon, Africa, Machu Picchu, and many others).
Above all she valued her family and friends.
Nona is survived by her sister, Diane Demoruelle Richardson; nephew, John Demoruelle Richardson; and niece, Gail Diane Richardson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Victor Hamilton and Leona (Daniel) Demoruelle, Jr.; and husbands, Warren Roy Brady (1980) and John Owen Bohmer (2022).
