Lois M. Conklin, age 84 of Glenwood, died Friday, January 10, 2014 at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 14th at Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev. Randy Chrissis officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Lois Mae Conklin was born June 3, 1929 in East Valley Township, Marshall County, MN to Alfred and Lillie (Peterson) Larson. She was baptized and confirmed at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, MN. She graduated from Newfolden High School in 1947 and then attended Teacher's Training in Thief River Falls, MN. She taught two years in the area.
On July 17, 1949, she married her soul mate, Milton Conklin. They farmed four years east of Holt and were blessed with two daughters, Patty and Laurie. In 1954, they moved to Glenwood when Milton took a job with the Soo Line Railroad. Lois was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, baking and gardening. She later attended St. Cloud University and taught eleven years at Westport Elementary. She was a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church where she served on the Alter Guild and Circle.
Lois and Milt enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling in the United States, Canada, and Alaska. When they retired they became winter "snowbirds" in Texas and enjoyed their camping lot by Mille Lacs Lake in the summer. They had many friends throught out the United States and Canada. Due to Alzheimer's she was moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village in December of 2005.
Lois is survived by her husband, Milton Conklin of Glenwood; daughter, Patricia (Glen) Boysen of Glenwood; son-in-law, Terry (Carol) Skare of Coon Rapids, MN; grandchildren: Shelly (Tad) Brown, Chad (Sarah) Boysen, Shawna (Paul) Lazorik, and John (Jenni) Skare; great-grandchildren: Clarrisa and Erika Brown, Nolan Boysen, Ethan Hubert, Elaina, Colton and Gavin Lazorik and Dustin, Sierra and Dylan Skare; nieces, nephews, other realtives and friends.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Laurie June Skare; mother and father-in-law; Arthur and Tillie (Knutson) Conklin; brother, Melvin Larson; sisters, Doris (Marlan) Augustine and Ethel (Ernie) Hanson and a nephew.
