Lowell "Duffy" Day, age 82 of Villard, died Monday, July 28, 2014 at home.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, August 1st at the Villard United Methodist Church in Villard with Pastor Alexander Victor Jones officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Inurnment will be in the Lake Leven Cemetery in rural Villard.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Lowell "Duffy" Allen Day, the son of Earl and Janet (Day) Day, was born June 27, 1932 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He grew up in Wayzata and graduated from Wayzata High School.  Duffy lived in the metro where he supervised and worked maintenance for Minnetonka Beach.  In 1994 he retired and moved to Villard.  After moving to Villard, he worked for many years as the supervisor of the Leven Township, worked for Gary and Jane Reents driving truck and semi, worked for Pat Gaffaney and drove school bus for the Minnewaska schools. On October 25, 2011, Lowell was united in marriage to JoAnn Catlin at the Villard United Methodist Church.  The couple made their home near Villard. Duffy was an active member of the Villard United Methodist Church, which he helped build.  He also helped build houses for habitat for humanity.  Duffy was very proud of his sobriety and has been sober for the past 40 years.  He was always willing to talk to or support anyone who was having trouble.  Duffy will be remembered for his special sense of humor, his kindness, honesty and his get'er done work ethic. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Day of Villard; 5 sons, Albert, Roger, David, Marc, and Lowell, Jr.; 1 daughter, Deann; 6 grandchildren; sisters, Doris, Harriet, Marian and Jane; brothers, Harold, James, Douglas, Lyle, Dennis and William; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Duffy is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Margaret and brothers, Bruce and John.
