Lucille J. Pitzen, age 89 of Glenwood, died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 22 ^nd at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating.  Visitation will be Sunday from 5 – 7 pm with parish prayers at 7 pm at the funeral home in Glenwood.  Visitation will also continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Glenwood.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Lucille Johanna Pitzen, was born on September 24, 1926 in Sauk Center, Minnesota. She was the fourth born of 12 children to George and Annie (Koleszar).  She grew up on a farm in Osakis.

Lucille was united in marriage to Alfred Pitzen on September 23, 1953 in Osakis, Minnesota.  They made their home in Glenwood, Minnesota on the Pitzen Dairy Farm. They were blessed with seven children.

Lucille loved the farm life and was a true homemaker.  She enjoyed raising her seven children, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was all about family.  She also had a passion for garage sales – always looking for a good deal.  Embroidery was another hobby that she loved.  She would embroidery shirts, kitchen towels, and bath towels and share them with her family and friends.

Lucille will always be remembered for her beautiful smile that would light up the room. Her caring heart for her family and friends. She was a very generous, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend; she will never be forgotten.  A year ago, when Lucille needed help with her daily care she moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village.  She really enjoyed her time there and made many friends with the staff and residence.  She loved showing her appreciation and would give out Dove chocolates, small gifts and jewelry.  She passed away August 17, 2016 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.

Lucille is survived by her sons: Jerry (Maria) Pitzen, Glenwood, Edward (Rose) Pitzen, Willmar, MN, Jim (Genevive) Pitzen, Glenwood; daughters: Linda (Paul) Birkholtz, Glenwood, Bobbie (Steve) McChesney, Willmar, MN, Becky Olson, Glenwood; grandchildren: Nathan Pitzen, Jason (Jessica) Johnson, Michael, Jesse, Holly (Fiancé Kevin Swedal),  Heather Johnson, David (Nichole) McChesney, Brian (Fiancé Carissa Thompson) McChesney, Angie (Jeremiah Slagter) McChesney, Alicia, Taylor Olson, Brooke, Mathew and Ashley Pitzen; great-grandchildren: Ellie Skaalerud, Grace, Alex, Mason, Chanse, Ella McChesney; Emily, Joshua, Tyson, Aubrie, Aiden Johnson, Lilly Olson; sisters: Mary Zins, Arlene Sutton, Yvonne Zenner, Alvina Waldorf; brothers:  Donald (special friend, Joann Benson) Santer, George (Mary Jo) Santer, and Joseph (Carole) Santer; many nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.

Lucille is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alfred in 2005; son, Joseph; sister, Lorraine; brothers: Walt, Clarence, and Lawrence and son-in-law, David Olson.
