Stager, age 79 of Glenwood, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at the Glenwood Retirement Village.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.  Interment will be in St. Clara Catholic Cemetery in Clara City at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Marcella Mae Stager, the daughter of Eilert and Dorothy (Schroeder) Goldenstein, was born August 19, 1937 in Clara City, Minnesota. She grew up in Clara City and graduated from Clara City High School in 1955.

After high school, Marcella was employed at Clara City Bank before becoming a stay at home mom. After her children were older, she returned to the bank and continued to work there while it changed names from Clara City Bank to Americana Bank and currently Citizens State Bank.   She retired from banking after a total of 20 years.

On March 5, 1983, Marcella was united in marriage to Ronald Stager at St. Clara Catholic Church. The couple made their home in Clara City and purchased the drug store which they renamed Stager Drug and Gifts. Marcella worked part time at the drug store as the buyer and did payroll. In 1995, Marcella quit working due to injuries from an automobile accident. In 1999, Ron retired and sold the drug store and Marcella and Ron moved to Lake Amelia near Glenwood, Minnesota. They continued to reside on Lake Amelia, spending summers at the lake and wintering in their home at Stuart Place Country Club in Harlingen, Texas.

Marcella loved to cook and bake. She made many chocolate chip cookies and her sour cream raisin pie was a big hit during the holidays, along with her potato salad at family gatherings. She was a good seamstress and sewed many wedding and bridesmaid dresses. She loved her flower gardens and vegetable gardens. She enjoyed traveling with Ron and made many trips to Vermont and Maine to visit her daughter Dorinda before she passed away in 2009. For many years, she was an avid fisherwoman. Marcella especially loved her children and grandchildren who she loved to spoil.

Marcella is survived by her husband Ronald Stager of Glenwood, MN; sons: Steven (Kathleen) Speiser and Bryan Speiser both of Clara City; grandchildren, Nicholas (Nola) Speiser and Matthew (Halie) Speiser; great-grandchildren, Brooke, Kase, Mason and Maverick Speiser; brother, Eugene (Dianne) Goldenstein of Granite Falls, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Dorinda Stone; and sister, Janice Kimpling.
