Marian Shipton, age 97 of Alexandria, died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at Peaceful Bliss Assisted Living in Alexandria. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 31st at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Marian Marie Krumrey Shipton the daughter of Henry Daniel and Frances Mary (Miller) Krumrey was born April 11, 1917 in Grove Lake, Minnesota. Her family moved to Westport where she started school. Later they moved to a farm on Lake Villard and she graduated from Villard High School. Marian moved to Minneapolis in 1949, and she worked for an insurance company. While living in Minneapolis, she met her husband Howard Lyle Shipton. They were united in marriage on August 29, 1953 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale, Chickasaw County, Iowa. Following their marriage they made their home in Mesa, Arizona, where they lived most of their lives.
Marion was a homemaker without children. She was a gifted seamstress, knitter and quilter. She entered contests and won many blue ribbons for her crafts. She made outfits and sweaters for her nieces and nephews. Marian also enjoyed genealogy. Howard and Marian had a camper and they loved to travel on weekends and vacations. For a brief time after Howard's retirement, they farmed property they purchased in Doniphan, Missouri, before returning to Mesa before Howard died on September 16, 2000. Marian remained living in Mesa until November of 2004, when she moved back to Glenwood to be near her family. She moved into Peaceful Bliss Assisted Living in Alexandria in 2006, due to dementia, and remained there until she passed away on January 21, 2015.
Marian is survived by her sister, Joyce Jacobs of Glenwood; nieces and nephews, Robert (Kathy) Jacobs of Glenwood, Julia (Ken) Bunch of CA, Paula (Tom) Hinke of Marshfield, WI, Kim (Marlo) Hubin of Westbrook, MN, Joel (Brenda) Krumrey of Cottonwood, MN and Jan Lenwill of CA; many great nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband of 47 years, Howard, sister, Bernice Krumrey; brother, Leland Krumrey; brother-in-law, Robert Jacobs; sister-in-law, Katherine Krumrey and nephews, John Krumrey and Kevin Jacobs.
