Marie Sherlin, age 96 of Glenwood, died Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at the Centra Care Health Center in Sauk Centre, MN. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 23 rd at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood with Father Michael Wolfbauer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Marie S. Sherlin the daughter of Bert and Theresa (Drayna) Motzko was born November 20, 1918 on a farm near Browerville, Minnesota. She grew up in the Browerville/Clarissa area, attending and graduating from the Clarissa High School.
On July 16, 1941, Marie was united in marriage to Arville Sherlin in Clarissa. They made their home in Long Beach, near Glenwood. This marriage was blessed with four children. Over the years, Marie was employed at Nash Finch Grocery, the Lakeside Ballroom and the Glenwood Hospital, along with owning and operating her own antique business, Marie's Antiques. She owned the antique business for over 40 years and loved going to auctions to find new inventory. Marie especially loved being with the public and enjoyed visiting with people. She will be remembered for being a loving, independent woman with a very social personality. Marie tried to give her children and grandchildren all the tools and wisdom they needed to succeed in life.
Marie is survived by her daughters: Arlene Barsness of Waite Park, MN, Susan Haverhals of Moscow, Idaho, and Gretchen Sherlin of Lowman, Idaho; 6 grandchildren: Theresa, Nancy, Maria, Marijka, David and Danny; and 4 great-grandchildren: Ellen, Nicole, Emma and Swaantje; nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Arville Sherlin in 1998, son Bruce Sherlin in 2006, and three siblings: Appy, Edmund and Jerome.
