Obituary

Marlys L. Dalager, age 77, of Glenwood, MN, died Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday at Barsness Lutheran Church, with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. on Sunday at the funeral home in Glenwood and will resume at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in Barsness Lutheran Cemetery.  Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood. Marlys Louise Pochardt, daughter of Berthold Ludwig and Louise Wilhelmina (Riemann) Pochardt, was born on June 26, 1937, in Chokio, MN.  She grew up on a farm near Starbuck, attending country school in District 53 before graduating from Starbuck High School.  She and her family were members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.  Following graduation, she continued her education at the Minnesota School of Business. On March 8, 1958, Marlys was united in marriage to Selmer Herald "Harold" Dalager at Calvary Lutheran Church in Glenwood.  The two first made their home in Minneapolis and then various surrounding suburbs before moving back to Pope County to farm south of Glenwood.  Their marriage was blessed with seven children, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Douglas, Dennis, Daniel, Darrel, and Duane. Over the years, Marlys worked at various businesses.  When the family lived in Hastings, MN, she was employed by Smeads for 6 years and after moving to Glenwood she worked for Peter's Resort for 20 years.  She also worked with Hospice of Glenwood for 15 years.  Marlys was a devoted member of Barsness Lutheran Church and active with their Ladies Aide.  She was also a strong supporting member of Al-anon and really enjoyed being a "Grandma" at the Elementary School in Glenwood.  Marlys was an avid reader as well as a great cook and caregiver.  She cherished her family and friends and sought to honor God in all that she did. Marlys is survived by her children, Rebecca Bartell of Alexandria, MN, Elizabeth (Charles) Sorensen of Cyrus, MN, Douglas (Brenda) of Gloucester, VA, Dennis of Starbuck, Daniel of St. Paul, MN, Darrel (Wendy) of Aurora, CO, Duane (Janice) of Phoenix, AZ; 15 grandchildren, Jennifer, Wyatt (Christina) and Robert Sorensen, Susan, Shane, and Brandon Dalager, Westly and Holly Bartell, Devin and Kennedy Dalager, Steven, Adam, Susan and Joshua Shearin, and Sydney Dalager; 8 great-grandchldren, Emma and Ayden Sorensen, Carter and Caleb Larson, Callie Faust, Avery Sanderson, Jason Shearin and Noah Dalager; 3 sisters, Myrtle (Clarence) Anderson, Darlene Hagestuen, and Amanda Schmidt; 1 brother, Marvin Pochardt; 1 sister in-law, Ione Johnson; 1 brother in-law, Howard Carlson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Selmer "Harold" Dalager in 2008; 6 brothers, Louie, Harold, Vernon, Raymond, Elden and Emil; 2 sisters, Emily Grammetz and Johanna; 2 brothers in-law Allen (Darlene) Hagestuen  and  Hjelmer (Amanda) Schmidt;  2 sisters in-law Beverly (Marvin) Pochardt and Theora (Howard) Carlson;  and a nephew Chester Leo (son to Emily G).
