Norma J. Anderson, age 87 of Farwell, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10th at 11:00 A.M. at Oscar Lake Lutheran Church in rural Farwell with Pastor Denise Croskey officiating.  Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in Oscar Lake Lutheran Cemetery.  Arrangement are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Norma Jean, the daughter of Albert Christian Danielson and Clara Mabel (Fowlds) Danielson was born August 5, 1926 on the Danielson family farm in Chippewa Falls Township, Pope County Minnesota. She passed away May 7, 2014 under hospice care at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood. Norma grew up on the farm and attended a country school near the home farm. After the death of her mother in 1935 Norma was the primary caretaker of her younger sister, Phyllis, and learned to keep house. The family later moved to a farm near Nelson, MN where she attended Dist 40 and graduated from the 8th grade. After graduating she worked as a mother's helper and housekeeper. She met William H. (Bill) Anderson at a dance at Gene's Barn in 1942. They were married March 4, 1944 while Bill was in basic training at Ft Campbell KY. Three weeks later Bill was deployed to the European front and Norma was left stateside, a typical war bride. She moved to Berkley, CA working as a waitress at a Swedish restaurant until Bill returned from the war. They moved back to Minnesota, renting a farm South of Kensington until 1951 when they purchased their farm Southeast of Farwell where they raised their family of 4 boys. Coincidentally this farm adjoined her Brother Clinton's farm. Bill and Norma semi-retired and moved into Farwell in 1977 where they maintained a farm on the edge of town. Norma never actually retired because she was always busy. A tireless member of Oscar Lake Church, she made many quilts for missions as well as being a Sunday School teacher, ELCW member and officer and church council member. She was a 4-H leader, Kensington American Legion Auxiliary member and was active in her community serving as Farwell City treasurer for many years and on the Pope County Council on Aging. She was custodian of the Farwell town hall, organized community coffee days and a large craft sale every Fall in Farwell. If she was home and it was not nice enough to be working in her beautiful yard, she could be found at her sewing machine making quilts and handmade items to sell at the craft sale or for gifts. Family was first to Norma and she loved to have everyone over for Sunday dinner or cookouts in the summer. Every grandchild and great grandchild as well as newlywed couple all got quilts from Grandma. With her earnings from the sale of crafts she purchased Christmas gifts for all of her family. Christmas was her favorite time of year. She was happy to be in her kitchen baking her famous sugar cookies and flatbread among other goodies and made dozens of homemade treats for the Christmas open house at her bank. She did a wonderful job of decorating her home and entertaining friends and family. She never missed a Sunday at church or a grandchild's birthday and was a loving wife, mother, mother in law, grandmother of 9 and great grandmother of 12+. Norma is survived by her sons Dale of Farwell, Wayne (Cindy) of Farwell and Scott (Cheri) of Kensington, her grandchildren Charleen (Jamie) Drewes, Michael (Tory) Anderson, Cord (Julie) Anderson, Cullen (Angela) Anderson, Barry Anderson, Nash (Tina) Anderson, Noah (Melinda) Anderson, Paige (Dale) Haberer, Nicole Anderson, and special friend, Pam Lundquist. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, son, Bruce Anderson, her parents, siblings and spouses; brother, Clinton (Lorraine) Danielson, sisters Mildred (Orine) Rust and Phyllis (Glen) Miller.
