Norma Jean (Torguson) Strommen Lea, age 87 of Glenwood, died March 1, 2016 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital with her family by her side. A memorial service will be held for Norma in July during Waterama. Inurnment will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Norma Jean (Torguson) Strommen Lea was born on January 9, 1929 to John and Cora (Susag) Torguson of Glenwood. She had two older brothers, John Jr. "Jack" and William. Norma's family moved to Superior, Wisconsin when she was three years old. She graduated from Superior Central High School. Norma married Norman Strommen on December 1, 1946. They made their first home in Alexandria and eventually moved to Glenwood. Norman and Norma were married for 28 years before Norman died of cancer in 1980.
Norma later married Edwin Lea. The couple made their home in Glenwood. Norma and Edwin shared 22 years of marriage before Edwin passed away. After Edwin died, Norma moved to Hillsboro, Wisconsin by two of her daughters for five years, before moving back to Glenwood into the Ridgewood Villa and eventually the Glenwood Retirement Village.
Norma was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She belonged to Glenwood Lutheran Church where she was a member of the choir and taught Sunday school. Norma was a Girl Scout leader and involved with the music boosters. She belonged to the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. For 25 years she was a seamstress for many of the ladies in Glenwood. She worked at Glenwood Floral and Feigum Floral. She was an ambulance driver for the Glenwood Hospital, a voting judge and drove a school bus for 38 years.
Norma enjoyed golfing, dancing, music, sewing, making lefse and spending time with family and friends. She especially liked playing cards with her golf group. Her dogs were always special to her. Norma passed away March 1, 2016 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood with her family by her side.
She is survived by her daughters: Sandra (Bruce) Holverson and Sharon (Charles) Jirschele both of Hillsboro, WI, and Cathy Brown of Glenwood; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Norman Strommen and Edwin Lea; and brothers Jack and Bill Torguson.
