Obituary

Omer Charles Christianson, age 93, died in Glenwood, Minnesota on Thursday morning, August 4, 2016.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8 at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church with Pastor Bonnie Lomen officiating.  Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.  Interment will be in Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church cemetery.  Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Omer Charles Christianson, the son of Edwin and Alma (Solbreken) Christianson, was born August 18, 1922 in Chippewa Falls Township, Pope County, Minnesota.  He lived in the Terrace area all his life.  He attended country schools, District 69 and District 2 in Gilchrist Township.  He was a lifetime member of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace, where he was baptized and confirmed.

On September 23, 1949, Omer was united in marriage to Pearl Lillian Larson at Nora Lutheran Church in rural Kensington, Minnesota. The couple made their first home on a farm west of Terrace for 10 years before moving to their farm south of Terrace, where they have lived for the past 57 years.  This marriage was blessed with three children; Cindy, Judy and Kevin.  Omer was a farmer for his entire life.  He also worked at Brutanza Snowmobile Manufacturing in Brooten in the 1970's. He was a member of the school board for District 69, served on the Chippewa Falls Church Council, financial secretary, and as an usher for many years.

In his lifetime he loved farming with and riding horses, trapping, playing baseball, was a terrific dancer, had beautiful penmanship, liked to draw and loved a good story.  He enjoyed westerns, collecting caps, playing his harmonica, attending farm auctions and telling stories about the cars he had throughout his life.  He always had his Allis Chalmers tractors, loved working on his lawn mowers and especially enjoyed mowing his 3 acre lawn.  Omer loved driving in his pickup, stopping in to visit with his many friends along the way.  He, with his constant companion, Pearl, also loved driving country roads or "driving a different way home".

Omer will be remembered by so many for so many reasons.  But mostly he will be remembered for his love for his family, his faith in God and his lifelong tie to the Terrace area.  He always had a willingness to help where he was needed and was blessed by so many in his later life who gave back when he needed them.

Omer is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Pearl (Larson)Christianson of Glenwood; children: Cindy(Bob) Grothem of Willmar, Judy (Dan) Blade of Hutchinson, and Kevin(Marta) Christianson of Victoria, Minnesota; 4 grandchildren: Heidi (Chris) Hinkemeyer, Ryan Grothem (and special friend, Laura Klein), Joshua Blade and Thomas Blade; great-grandchildren: Grant, Aeriana, Clarice and Theron; brother, Forrest (Judy) Christianson of Belgrade; brother-in-law, Lee Doble of Glenwood and many wonderful nieces and nephews, sisters-in law, cousins and many, many friends.  He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Fern Doble.

Blessed be his memory.
