Orville E. Lien, age 87, of Glenwood, died Thursday April 20, 2017 at Glenwood Village Care Center in Glenwood, MN. A memorial service will be held Sunday April 23, at 3:00 PM at the All Saints Chapel at the care center. Pastor Bonnie Lomen will be officiating the service. Visitation will be from 2 PM until the time of the service in the lower level of Parkview Court. Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Orville Edwin Lien, the son of Olaus and Esther (Sundheim) Lien was born on November 29, 1929 in Blue Mounds Twp., MN. He grew up on the family farm south of Lake Emily and southwest of Starbuck, MN. He was baptized, took First Communion and was Confirmed at West Zion Lutheran Church, Hancock, MN. He attended the small country school in Blue Mound Twp.
Orville was united in marriage to Wilma Jeanette Lang on October 2, 1954 in Kerkoven, MN. Following their marriage the couple made their home East of the Lien family farm where the couple farmed with Orville's parents. The couple was blessed with five children.
Orville took over the family farm in early 1971. Along with running the farm, he helped neighbors and friends with anything that needed to be fixed or welded. Orville also sold Funk seed corn while taking care of his farm. In 1987, he sold the farm to his oldest son. He then moved to Starbuck to live with his mother. In 2007 he moved to the Minnewaska Lutheran Home, in Starbuck. In 2008, Orville was moved to the Glenwood Village Care Center in Glenwood where he lived until God called him home.
Orville is survived by his daughter, Kathy Hookom (Steve Paape) of Lowry, MN; four sons, Norman (Lynette) of Glenwood; Wayne (Cherie) of Glenwood; Loren (Darla) of Watertown, SD; and Joey (Deb) of Alexandria, MN; 21 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Wilma; and one grandchild, Daniel Lien.
