Peter A. Gilbertson, age 74 of Glenwood, died Saturday, February 8, 2014 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12th at Indherred Lutheran Church in rural Starbuck.  Visitation will be on Tuesday, from 5:00 – 7:00 at the funeral home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Peter Albert Gilbertson the son of Walter and Martha (Rosten) Gilbertson was born March 17, 1939 in Starbuck, Minnesota.  He grew up on a farm near Glenwood and attended Pleasant Hill Country School before attending and graduating from Glenwood High School. On April 8, 1961, Peter was united in marriage to Karolyn Scherff in Mankato, Minnesota.  This marriage was blessed with two children. Pete was employed at a fertilizer department for Twin Valley Farmers Union Coop from 1961- 1963.  He then worked for Farmers Union Coop in Hutchinson from 1963-1966, followed by managing the Farmers Union Coop in Halstad, MN from 1966-1979.  Pete then managed the Kandiyohi Cenex Elevator from 1979-1982.  Following which, he took over the family farm for a few years before starting work for the Pope County Soil and Water as the Tree Manager.  He continued to work there for 19 years until he retired in 2006. Peter was a very active member of Indherred Lutheran Church where he has served as the President, Deacon, treasurer, sang in the church choir, and plowed the snow in the church yard for the last 19 years.  He enjoyed working on old cars, the saw mill, and playing cards.  Peter and Karolyn loved cribbage and had a tradition of playing cribbage games everyday after each meal.  Pete will be remembered for loving his faith, family and farm.  He was a reliable, hard worker who enjoyed working and had an excellent work ethic.  He enjoyed calling his family nicknames (Karolyn was Lover, Al was Ole, Lea was Olga and Mackenzie was Mac, to name a few).  Pete enjoyed lutefisk, visiting with his friends and telling Norwegian jokes.  He was a genuine man, the same on the outside as he was on the inside and above all he loved his wife. He is survived by wife of 52 years, Karolyn Gilbertson of Glenwood; son, Alan (Tessa) Gilbertson of Superior, WI; daughter, Lea Gilbertson of Willimantic, CT; granddaughter, Mackenzie Gilbertson; sisters, Audrey Fincke of Tulsa OK, Jeannine Churchill of Apple Valley, MN, and Ruth (Neil) Thielke of Morris, MN; nieces, nephews other relatives and many friends. Peter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Martha Gilbertson and brothers-in-law, Larry Fincke and Tim Churchill.
