Phyllis Jane (Ehret) Nelson, age 75, of Glenwood, and Sun City, AZ, died January 21, 2014, at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN, following complications from open heart surgery. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 31st at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. Visitation will be at the church on the morning of the service beginning at 10:00 A.M. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenwood.
Phyllis, daughter of Robert and Genevieve (Kelly) Ehret, was born on March 2, 1938 in Tyler, Minnesota. Phyllis graduated high school in Flandreau, South Dakota in 1956 and Gale Institute in Minneapolis. Phyllis married James Nelson on July 22, 1961.
In 1964, Phyllis and Jim moved to Hallock, Minnesota where Jim joined the law firm of Brink, Sobolik, Severson and Nelson. In March 1967, the Nelson family moved to Glenwood where Jim purchased an interest in the Winter Law Firm.
Phyllis enjoyed the Glenwood Dance Club, working part-time at Herbergers, and spending time with family and friends. At various times of her life, Phyllis was involved with Meals on Wheels, the Sacred Heart church choir and the American Cancer Society. Phyllis and Jim liked to travel and these travels took them to Norway, Arizona, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida, Alaska, New York, the Black Hills and numerous other fun places. Phyllis and Jim were members of the Union Hills Country Club and Palmbrook Country Club in Sun City.
Phyllis is survived by her children: her son, Jeff (Michelle) of North Branch, MN; her son, Steven (Kristin) of Shakopee, MN; her daughter, Pamela Matteson (Mark) of St. Paul, MN; grandchildren Janna Lundein, Bethany Hanson, Mackenzie Nelson, Connor Hanson, Arianna Nelson, Fiona Nelson, Julian Nelson and Alijah Nelson and her sister Joanne Ruebsam (Dean) of Tracy, MN; her sister Marlene Weicherding (Donald) of New Hope, MN; her sister Mitzi Turley of Sioux Falls, SD; her brother Robert Ehret (Vicky) of Maple Grove; her brother James Ehret of Maplewood, MN; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband and parents; sister-in-law, Phyllis Nelson; brother-in-law Gene Turley; nephew, Douglas Biteler; and nephew Adam Ehret.
