Richard Dalager, age 89 of Glenwood, died Saturday, September 25, 2021 at the Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck. A visitation celebrating Richard's life will be held on Saturday, October 2nd from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 4 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. Inurnment will be held at a later date in the Lake Ann Cemetery.
Richard Douglas Dalager "Dick", son of William and Ester (Lee) Dalager, was born on July 9, 1932, in Glenwood. Dick grew up on a farm in Barsness Township. He attended school in Glenwood, graduating in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1955-1957. On May 27, 1955, he was united in marriage to Patricia L. Cooley. The couple made their home in the Glenwood area.
Dick worked on the Soo Line Railroad, later the CP Rail, retiring in 1994. He loved trap shooting, golfing, hunting, ice fishing and woodworking. He made many keepsakes for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to enjoy.
After a brief stay at Minnewaska Lutheran Home in Starbuck, Dick died there on September 25, 2021. Prior to that, he resided at Ridgewood Villa in Glenwood.
Dick is survived by his wife, Pat Dalager; two daughters, Beth (Jeff) Snider and Jennifer Dalager; grandchildren, Annie (Dan) Johnson, Emma (Eric Gerdes) Nyhammer and Ty Nyhammer; great-grandchildren, Mari, Blayne, Cameron and Baby; son-in-law, Bradley Nyhammer; three brothers, Bill Dalager, Ken (Judi) Dalager, and Gerald (Cheryl) Dalager; one sister, Myra Brenden; two sisters-in-law, Elaine Dalager and Jeanne Drewrey; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ester Dalager; daughter, Jayne L. Nyhammer; granddaughter, Katie E. Snider; two brothers, Harlan and Hans Dalager; and three sisters, Eleanor Dodds, Wanda Wagner and Arlene Frederick.
