Robert A. Hofmann, age 67 of Brooten, died Friday, October 14, 2016 at home surrounded by his family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 18th at St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten, with Father Peter Kirchner officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with Parish Prayers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Interment will be in the St. Donatus Catholic Cemetery in Brooten. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Brooten. Robert A. "Bobby" Hofmann, son of Walter and Irene (Rose) Hofmann, was born on September 8, 1949, in Belgrade, MN. He and his five brothers grew up on a farm near Belgrade, until 1960, when the family moved to Brooten. He attended school in Belgrade and Brooten. On May 13, 1972, he was united in marriage to Margaret Hammond at St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten. The two made their home in Brooten and their marriage was blessed with two children, Leslie and Brian. Bobby, along with his brother, Dennis, owned and operated Hofmann Sanitation in Brooten for 30 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Donatus Catholic Church in Brooten. Bobby enjoyed spending time at the family cabin in the woods and ice fishing. He was an avid and knowledgeable collector of vintage cars and auto parts, as well as old movies, especially westerns. He liked birdwatching and listening to classic rock n' roll. He had a kind heart, a wonderful sense of humor, and was a gifted storyteller. Bobby was also a skilled handyman, which made him a good source for advice and help on a wide range of things. More than anything, he will be remembered as a loving and kind son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Margaret of Brooten; a daughter, Leslie (Jeff) Murdock of Brooten ; a son, Brian (Michelle) Hofmann of Brooten; four grandchildren, Tyler and Hunter Murdock, and Alex and Madison Hofmann; one brother, David of New Ulm; as well as nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Irene Hofmann; father and mother in law, Robert and Alice Hammond; brothers, Marlin, Vernon, Donald, Dennis Hofmann; brothers-in-law, David Westman and Robert A Hammond; niece, Margo Hofmann; and nephew, Ryan Hammond.
