Rose M. Chan, age 84, of Lowry, MN, died unexpectedly on Friday, February 26, 2016, at her home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Thursday, March 3 rd , at Church of the Sacred Heart in Glenwood, with Fr. Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home in Glenwood with Parish Prayers at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Bohemian Independent Cemetery, rural Lowry. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Rose Marie (Kalina) Chan was born August 25, 1931 to Anton and Rose (Benesh) Kalina in Lake Mary Township, Douglas County, Minnesota. She attended country school at District #19 (Sunnyknoll) in Lake Mary Township through the eighth grade. Rose was united in marriage to Maynard Chan on October 25, 1949. They farmed together for over 50 years. This marriage was blessed with a daughter, Karen in 1954.
Rose always enjoyed helping others. She worked as a waitress and baker at Cannonball Kitchen in Glenwood and the Cyrus Café. In her later years she took pride in selling vegetables and baked goods at the Pope County Farmers Market. Many folks enjoyed her homemade angel food cakes and kolaches. She was known as the "egg-lady". She delivered many dozen eggs to meat markets, restaurants and individuals. In the evening she enjoyed and faithfully watched Wheel of Fortune and Polka Spotlight. She attended church regularly and enjoyed partaking in the social activities after Mass.
Rose died on Friday, February 26, 2016 at her home in rural Lowry at the age of 84. She is survived by her daughter, Karen (Mark) Tauber of Lowry; grandson, Tony (Christina) Tauber; granddaughter, Missy (Nathan) Schultz; great-grandchildren, Lucas & Hailey Tauber and Levi & Kendra Schultz; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maynard Chan on March 31, 2015; brother, LeRoy Kalina and sister, Reanie Mrnak.
