Rosella Terhaar, age 89 of Glenwood, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 7th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood. A Rosary will be held at 1 p.m. along with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Rosella Anne Terhaar was born on July 21, 1927 near Villard, MN, daughter of William and Rose (Havlik) Bryce. Rosy grew up around Villard and graduated from Villard High School. She got her teaching degree from St. Cloud State University and taught school for 37 years in rural Glenwood, Lake Reno, Westport, & Villard Schools until she retired in 1987. She loved gardening and sewing during her summer breaks, and supplied and arranged flowers for many years at Sacred Heart Church.
On September 15, 1947 she married Gerald Terhaar at Saint Bartholomew Church in Villard. They farmed for 40 years. Rosy and Gerald danced and she played bass guitar as accompaniment to Gerald playing his concertina. They traveled all around playing music for events. When they retired, Gerald and Rosy were able to travel more and wintered in Texas for a few years. When Rosy became ill with Alzheimer's and needed help with her daily care, she moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village. She passed away there on December 31, 2016 at the age of 89 years.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Gerald Terhaar of Glenwood; one son, Steven (Kathy) Terhaar of Plymouth, MN; two grandchildren, Jenifer (Thomas) Bond of Austin, TX and Robert (Andrea) of New York City; three great grandsons, Parker, Ethan and Hudson of Austin, TX; brother, Edward Bryce of Sauk Centre; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rosella is preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Agnes, Albena, Robert and Walter.
