Scott A. Monson, age 56 of Alexandria, died Monday, January 29, 2018 at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2nd at Glenwood Lutheran Church in Glenwood, with Rev. Randy Chrissis and Rev. Julie Grothe officiating. Visitation will be Thursday from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Scott Allen Monson, the son of Rose Marie (Grothe) and the late James C. Monson, was born on September 2, 1961 in Benson, MN. He attended Glenwood Central High and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1979. He furthered his education at Moorhead Technical College in Moorhead, MN from 1979 – 1981, graduating with a degree Auto Mechanics. After working in auto mechanics for some time, he spent the last 25+ years as a Machinist, with the last 15 years employed at Douglas Machine in Alexandria, MN.
Scott's family and pets where his pride and joy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing, marksmanship, and spending quality time with his 5 nephews and niece. He shared his sense of humor and kind heart with all those that knew him. He made his home in Alexandria, MN.
Scott is survived by his mother, Rose Marie (Grothe) Monson; brother, James (Bonnie) Monson, Garfield, MN, and sister, Deb (Ron Johnson) Monson of Glenwood, MN; nephews: Matt Monson of Moorhead, MN, Mike (Kylie H.) Monson of Moorhead, MN, Patrick (Courtney C.) Killacky of Alexandria, MN, Sean (Lacey T.) Killacky of Villard, MN, and Billy Killacky of Starbuck, MN; niece, Alisha (Kenny) Armstrong of Starbuck, MN; and great nephews, Decklin and Brody.
He is preceded in death by his father, James, and maternal grandparents, Walter and Elsie Grothe, and paternal grandparents, Wallace and Cora Monson.
He will be remembered for his generous contributions to the Douglas County Humane Society. Scott was blessed with 40 years of sobriety with the support of Alcoholics Anonymous. He will be remembered for being an advocate of the 2nd amendment.
