Sheila Gunderson, age 64 of the Glenwood area, died Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19th at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Father Michael Wolfbauer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Little Falls, MN. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Sheila Rae Gunderson, the daughter of Charles and Bernice (Williams) Parker was born October 2, 1949 in Springfield, Minnesota. She grew up in Walnut Grove and graduated from Walnut Grove High School. After high school, Sheila furthered her education studying horticulture in St. Paul, Minnesota.
On September 30, 1972, Sheila was united in marriage to Wayne Gunderson in Benson, Minnesota. Sheila and Wayne made their home in Starbuck and various towns in Minnesota. This marriage was blessed with three children, Brett, Desiree, and Nathan.
Sheila was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary in Starbuck MN. She enjoyed flowers, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her positive attitude, her outgoing personality and her contagious laughter. Sheila passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014 at the Knute Nelson Memorial Home in Alexandria.
Sheila is survived by her children: Brett (Alicia) Gunderson of Alexandria, MN, Nathan Gunderson of Alexandria, MN, and Desiree (Charles) Hackworth of Alexandria, MN; 3 sisters, Michele (Roger) Dokken of Starbuck, MN, Pam (Dalen) Negan of Watkins, MN and Brook (Vince) Stamm of Nisswa, MN; a brother, Marty (Kim) Parker of Thief River Falls, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Sheila is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Wayne Gunderson in 2006.
