Obituary

Steven Gary Jenum was born, April 26, 1945, at Starbuck Hospital, Starbuck MN.  He was the youngest of 5 children born to Ingolf and Hermine (Haugen) Jenum.  He died Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood MN at the age of 68.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 16, at 11 AM at the Barsness Lutheran Church with Rev. Duane Danielson officiating. Soloist: Lanny Barsness and Organist: Marian Pladson.  Pallbearers are Allen Braaten,  Arnold Moe, Douglas Sandeen, Jim Schmichstad, Jim Sherlin and Gary Weber.  Honorable pallbearer is William McCann.  Interment will be in the Barsness Lutheran Church Cemetery in Glenwood. Steven was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith at Barsness Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood.  He graduated from Glenwood High School in 1964. After graduation he went into the Army on January 12, 1966 and was honorably discharged on November 25, 1967.  While serving in Viet Nam he was wounded on March 13, 1967. The Defense Department awarded him the  Purple Heart for his wound received in action against the Viet Cong. Steven married Jane Wichterman on May 17, 1969 at the First Congregational Church in Alexandria MN.  All but a few months of the  44 years that they were married were spent in Glenwood.  To this union 3 children were born.  Lorie Ann (Jenum) Orlowski, Taunya Lynn Jenum and Jeffrey John Jenum. Steven starting working for the Soo Line Railroad in 1969 as a yard clerk, shortly after he transferred to the Switchman Department where he remained until his retirement from the Soo Line/CP Railroad on April 28, 2005. He was a member of Barsness Lutheran Church, Johnson Roll Dougherty Post 187 American Legion and Glenwood VFW. Steven will be remembered for his woodworking, quilt making, lefsa making, jam/jelly making and especially for all the new recipes he would try out on the family. Steven enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, going to the Casinos with Allen Braaten and Dennis Erickson, better known as "The Three Amigos" and for the last 5 years he looked forward to his winter trip to Florida in March. Steven is survived by his wife, Jane; 2 daughters Lorie (Dave) Orlowski and Taunya Jenum, both of Glenwood; son Jeffrey Jenum of Neenah Wisconsin; 3 grandchildren, Tarin Jenum of Alexandria, Ethen Solomon of Benson and Hannah Orlowski of Glenwood; 2 sisters, Carol (Terry) Kvenvold of Albert Lea and Dorothy Jenum of Glenwood.; brother, Wayne (Dona) Jenum of Glenwood; and many nieces and nephews. Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Ingolf and Hermine (Haugen) Jenum; sister and brother-in-law, Arlene (Wylie) Bogie and niece, Dianna (Nicolaus) Sickels.
