Theodora "Teddy" Diekman, age 90, of Glenwood, died Thursday, February 26, 2015 at Glenwood Retirement Village after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4th at the Minnewaska Assembly of God church in Glenwood. Visitation will be at the church, one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Theodora "Teddy" was born July 24, 1924, in Sioux Falls, SD to Charles and Arnelda (Johnson) Peters. She married Raymond A. Diekman on January 4, 1947. After their marriage, they moved to Alexandria, MN, Clear lake, SD and finally to Glenwood, MN. She was a stay at home mom and raised 4 children that she loved unconditionally. She also loved music and played many instruments by ear. In her earlier years she formed her own country western band called the "Sunset Ramblers" and played in various places. She also was part of a singing group in Glenwood called the "Young at Heart". She played for many retirement homes in her later years.
She also had a strong personal faith and commitment to her Lord Jesus Christ and lived her life accordingly. She was involved with teaching Sunday school and even braved going to Washington D.C. in the middle of winter on a mission trip.
Theodora is survived by her daughter, Gloria Sieben of Glenwood, MN; three sons, Lyndon (Ruth) of Rogers, MN, Larry (Marlene) of Edina, MN, and Clayton (Nancy) of Eden Prairie, MN; six grandchildren; Amy (Brom), Dusty, Wendy (Richie), Jamie, Kelley and Bethany; two great grandchildren, Eden and Isaiah; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Theodora is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond in 1996; two sisters, Delores Kalpin and Vera Peterson, and one brother Clayton.
The family would like to say a special "thank you" to the Glenwood Retirement Home staff for the excellent care they took of our mother. She retained her joy in spite of the disease that took over her body.
