Obituary

Timothy Lee "Tim" Torguson, of Glenwood, Minnesota, passed away on June 18, 2026, at the age of 71. A celebration of Tim's life will be held on August 22, 2026 from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at Captains Bar and Grill in Glenwood. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Born on November 1, 1954, in Glenwood, Minnesota, Tim was the youngest of four children born to Floyd and Ann (Hanson) Torguson. A lifelong resident of Glenwood, he devoted much of his life to his family, his business, and the community he loved.

Tim attended Glenwood Lutheran Church and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1973. He briefly attended the University of Minnesota before returning home to help manage the family business, Torgy's. For more than 40 years, he dedicated himself to the business, becoming a familiar face and trusted friend to generations of customers.

On August 13, 1974, Tim married Kathy Beecher in Watertown, South Dakota. Together they raised three children: Trisha Pederson, Charity Torguson, and Dustin Torguson. Though life took many turns in the years that followed, Tim's greatest pride and joy remained his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Tim is survived by his children, Trisha (Brian) Pederson, Charity Torguson, and Dustin Torguson; grandchildren Michael (Nicole) Pederson, Christopher Pederson, Morgan Bachelor, and Rylie Torguson; great-grandchildren Mavrick Pederson and Madilyn Pederson; brothers Larry (Gayla) Torguson and Marlin Torguson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Ann Torguson; his brother, Roger Torguson; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Torguson.

Tim believed in giving back to the community that had given him so much. He served as Chief of the Glenwood Fire Department and as a Glenwood City Commissioner. He was a member of the Glenwood Masonic Lodge and the Shriners. From 1983 to 1986, Tim was a member of the Glenwood Waterama Brass, helping organize and carry out one of the community's most cherished annual traditions.

Tim enjoyed hunting, fishing, water skiing, snowmobiling, and reading. Known for his sharp intellect and lifelong curiosity, he qualified for and was invited to join Mensa in the early 1980s. He had a passion for learning and an ability to recall details that often amazed those around him. Perhaps more than anything, Tim will be remembered for his passion for local history. He possessed an extraordinary knowledge of Glenwood and the surrounding area and delighted in sharing stories, facts, and memories from the region's past. A gifted storyteller, he could captivate family, friends, and even strangers with tales that blended history, humor, and personal recollections. Whether discussing local landmarks, families, businesses, or historical events, Tim could be considered Glenwood's unofficial historian, whose knowledge enriched countless conversations and helped preserve the heritage of the community he loved.

Tim will be remembered for his intelligence, generosity, quick wit, and deep love for his hometown. He leaves behind a legacy of service, knowledge, storytelling, and family that will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

The stories he shared, the history he preserved, and the lives he touched will not be forgotten.
