Vicki L. Thomsen, age 68 of Park Rapids, formerly Glenwood, died peacefully Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at home. A Memorial Service celebrating Vicki will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24th at Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev. Krista Lee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery in Glenwood. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Vicki Lynn Thomsen was born on March 26, 1958, in Minneapolis, the eldest of three daughters of Jack and Lynn (Strong) Thomsen. She grew up in Glenwood where she attended Glenwood Lutheran Church and formed the values of faith, kindness, and service that would guide her throughout her life. Vicki graduated from Glenwood High School with the Class of 1976. During her high school years, she was active in choir and was known for her beautiful voice, performing both as a soloist and as part of a trio that earned awards.
After high school, Vicki worked for several years as a nurse's aide before returning to Glenwood and going back to school to earn her degree as a medical secretary. She went on to build a strong and steady work ethic through her years at Glenwood Retirement Village, Lakeview Physical Therapy with Jim Beck, and Rexall Drug with Sid Domier. In 2001, she began working at American Solutions for Business as a customer service representative, a position she held for 24 years until her retirement in June of 2025. Vicki was respected by those who worked alongside her for her dependability, her thoughtful nature, and the care she showed in every task she took on.
Vicki was a Christian and a longtime member of Glenwood Lutheran Church. When she was younger, she taught Sunday school and sang in both the choir and with the Kairo singers. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she carried it with quiet strength and grace. She was a woman who gave of herself freely and who made others feel seen, valued, and cared for.
Vicki had many interests that brought her joy over the years. She enjoyed cross stitching and entered her work into county fairs, where she won awards at both the county and State Fair level. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, crafting, and tending the landscaping in her yard. Music was always present in her home, and she loved having it playing in the background. "Music soothes the soul" was one of her favorite sayings, and it reflected the gentle spirit with which she lived her life.
Above all else, Vicki cherished her daughters and grandchildren, and they were the center of her world. She was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love was steady, selfless, and unconditional. Her family will remember her for her kindness, her thoughtfulness, and the many ways she quietly put others before herself. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her best.
In 2024, following a cancer diagnosis, Vicki moved to Park Rapids to live near her daughter, Megan. She passed away there, peacefully at home, on June 17, 2026. She will be remembered as a selfless, kind, and thoughtful woman whose life was marked by faith, family, and quiet strength. Her presence brought comfort and warmth to those around her, and her memory will remain a blessing to all who loved her.
Vicki is survived by her two daughters, Crystal Thomsen of Starbuck and Megan (Matt Olson) Thomsen of Park Rapids; four grandchildren, Masie Jordan, Bradley Jordan, Maddison Olson, and Olivia Olson; one sister, Joyce (Scott) McGillivray of Kandiyohi; a niece, Orion (Angie) Thomsen of Colorado; and nephews, Ian (April) and Joshua (Mandy) McGillivray of Willmar.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Lynn Thomsen; a grandson, Timothy Thomsen; one sister, Jackie Johnson; and a niece, Shelly White.
