Obituary

Violet (Peper) Abraham, age 102, of Glenwood, MN, died Tuesday, October 29, 2013, at Glenwood Village Care Center.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 2nd, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Villard, with Pastor Joshua Heimbuck officiating.  Visitation will be at the church on Saturday morning from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M.  Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Villard.  Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood. Violet Gladys Etta Krapes was the firstborn daughter of Alfred and Ida (nee Schluter) Krapes on November 15, 1910, in Grove Lake Township, Pope County, Minnesota.  Violet attended elementary school district #6 and graduated from the eight grade at fourteen.  She was given the choice by her parents to go to high school or stay home.  She chose to remain at home with her folks.  Violet was an outdoor person and loved to help her dad and worked with the horses and field work wherever and whenever she could.  When she was eighteen, she met Ernest Peper and they were engaged in 1929.  They were married in 1931, at St. John's Lutheran Church by the same pastor, E.C. Barkow that baptized and confirmed Violet.  Violet joined the ladies aid, taught Sunday school, and sand in the choir. Violet and Ernest purchased and owned the farm known at the Otto Shook farm, southeast of Villard, for twenty seven years.  When their son, DeWayne decided to marry and take over the farm, Ernest and Violet had a house built about two miles west of the farm on East Lake Amelia in 1958.  While living there, Ernest would go to the farm almost every day.  One day while there, Ernest got injured from a fall and during recovery he passed away in 1971.  Violet had a brief, 2nd marriage to Paul Abraham, of Villard, but after a few months of marriage he passed away in 1973.  Violet continued to live at the lake until the upkeep was getting to be too much for her.  She sold the house and had an auctions sale and went and lived with her son and daughter-in-law until an apartment became available in 1995, at the Glenview Apartments in Glenwood. Violet loved to cook and entertain.  Her favorite hobbies were sewing and quilting.  She made many quilts for many people over the years.  She also loved gardening, growing flowers and baked many wedding cakes for people over the years.  Violet said many times that she sure was blessed with a good life.  She set foot in every state except Alaska and Hawaii, and made two trips to the Holy land.  Violet passed away October 29, 2013 at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood, at the age of 102 years old. She is survived by her son, DeWayne Peper of Glenwood; son-in-law, Onen Dalen of Ottertail, 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Violet is preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Ernest Peper; 2nd husband, Paul Abraham; daughter, Janice Dalen; and a sister, Esther McCann.
