Obituary

Warren Elliott "Bud" Hovren, 89, of Glenwood, MN, joined his Lord on Monday, March 28, 2016, after suffering a stroke on February 17, 2016. Rev. Randy Chrissis will officiate Bud's funeral at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church preceded by a visitation at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Glenwood Lutheran Church, Glenwood Retirement Village, or the donor's choice.

Bud was born January 4, 1927, in Victor, South Dakota, son of Otto Alexander and Edith (Youngberg) Hovren. He married Dorothy Hustad on October 18, 1953, in Alexandria, Minnesota, and they enjoyed a 56 year marriage before Dorothy passed away in 2009.  Iva Keacher was Bud's loving and caring companion in his later years.

The Otto Hovren family moved to Kensington, Minnesota, from Victor, South Dakota, where Bud was confirmed in his faith, was a Boy Scout, played basketball and baseball.  After graduating from Kensington High School in 1945, Bud served in the Army and was stationed in Alaska.  After receiving an honorable discharge he attended and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1951.  Bud soon joined his father, Otto, who owned the local John Deere franchise, Glenwood Implement.  A short time later, Bud's brother-in-law, Al Fjoslien, joined the firm and the three managed the business until Otto's retirement in the late 1960's, and Al's death in 1978.

Bud welcomed retirement in 1988 enabling him to spend more time fishing, golfing, gardening, playing softball, and making lefse at church.  He always had a project or two each day which kept him active and engaged.  He also loved socializing with his many friends and meeting new people.

He was a great husband, father, provider, and friend.

Bud wrote, "I believe in Christianity and I know that on my last day I will be ready to meet Jesus."

Bud is survived by his children and their families Mark (Judy Kay, Emily, Sara) Hovren, Bloomington, IL, Joan (Randy, Elizabeth, Charles) Snyder, Woodbury, MN, John Hovren, Edina, MN, Nancy (Alan Bovi and his daughters Andrea and Gina) Hovren, Chanhassen, MN; his companion, Iva Keacher; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy; and two sisters, Maureen Fjoslien and Lois Blumer.
