William "Bill" Winter, age 65 of Glenwood, died Saturday, March 5, 2016 at his home.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 10 ^th at Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev. Randy Chrissis officiating.  Visitation will be Wednesday, March 9 ^th from 5:00 – 7:00 pm at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

William "Bill" Allan Winter the son of Harold and Lorraine (Hauglid) Winter was born January 7, 1951 in Pipestone, Minnesota.  He grew up on a farm near Pipestone and attended Our Savior's Lutheran Church.  He attended school and graduated from Pipestone High School in 1969.

After high school Bill entered the United States Navy.  He served his country and after his honorable discharge he attended Alexandria Technical College where he graduated with a degree in drafting.  He accepted a position with Glenwood manufacturing then in 1980 began working at the Pope County Courthouse.  Bill was the Zoning Administrator for the Land and Resource Management working for 31 years until his retirement in 2011.  Bill was blessed with a daughter, Tish from his first marriage and then two step daughters when he married Valerie Jean (Wilson) Braaten at Glenwood Lutheran Church on November 20, 2004.  Bill and Val shared a total of 32 years together and made their home in Glenwood.

Bill was an active member of the Glenwood Fire Department for twenty years.  He also was a member of the Glenwood American Legion and VFW.  He enjoyed hunting upland game, especially pheasants, photography and making picture frames.  He especially loved spending time and playing with his grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his wife, Val Winter of Glenwood; daughter, Tish (Jeremy) Winter of Minneapolis; step-daughters, Kristie (Pat) Goebel of Glenwood and Heather (Kevin) Sack of Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Shawn Mady, Aeriana Wendt, Clarice Wendt, Teddy Wendt, Ashley Blom, Nick Goebel, Kyler Sack and Makenna Sack; sisters: Gayle (Jerry) Popma and Shelly (Jon) Kozlowski; brothers, Gary (Joanne) Winter, Denny (Linda) Winter and Tom (special friend, Carla) Winter; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lorraine Winter.
