Obituary

William "Bill" Noyes, age 85, of Glenwood, MN, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at his home surrounded by family and under the care of hospice.  Mass of Christian burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 15th, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood with Fr. Eberhardt Schefers officiating. Visitation will be Monday evening at the funeral home in Glenwood from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. and will resume on Tuesday at 10:00 A.M. at the church. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenwood, MN.  Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood. William "Bill" Chester Noyes, the son of Chester Russel and Genevieve Marie (Raster) Noyes, was born July 9, 1929, in Little Falls, MN.  He grew up in Little Falls where he attended the French Catholic Church.  Bill graduated from Little Falls High School in 1947.  After graduation, Bill entered the United States Army.  He served his country and was honorably discharged on November 3, 1952. On October 10, 1953, Bill was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Siegel at the French Catholic Church in Little Falls.  This marriage was blessed with four children.  The couple made their home in various towns until 1958, when they made Glenwood their home.  They continued to reside in Glenwood, and after Bill's retirement, they wintered in Arizona.   Bill and Betty shared 53 years of marriage before Betty passed away May 4, 2007.  After Betty passed away, Bill continued to winter in Arizona where he met his special friend and companion, Sharon Haggerty. Bill worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for over 30 years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glenwood and was very active in the Glenwood American Legion.  In his younger years he was active in the Jaycees and Waterama.  He loved golfing with his buddies, fishing (especially his Canada trips), playing cards, poker night, and spending time with his family and friends.   Bill also enjoyed his time spent on Lake Minnewaska, watching and playing sports, especially baseball and basketball, and gardening. Bill is survived by his children: Thomas (Sue) Noyes of Boulder, CO, Jeanne (Tom) Bradshaw of Cambridge, MN, Patti (Dave) Rasmussen of Glenwood, and Kimberly (special friend, Philip Himot) Noyes of Boulder, CO; grandchildren: Tiffany Grell, Andy (Joni) Bradshaw, Mark Bradshaw, Nolan Rasumssen, Luke Rasmussen, Naomi Noyes and Tia Noyes; special friend and companion Sharon Haggerty of Zimmerman and her family, Sheryl, Vinny, Angelia, and Jeff; brothers, Pat (Dorothy) Noyes of Park Rapids, MN and Bob (Mona) Noyes of Detroit Lakes, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Genevieve and Chester Noyes; his wife, Betty Noyes; and grandson, Nick Rasmussen.
