Agnes Schwieters Obituary

Agnes E. Schwieters, age 101, of Glenwood, died Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at Glacial Ridge Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 12th, at Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, with Father Joe Vandeberg officiating. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. and run until the time of service. In addition, pursuant to Gov. Walz's executive order, face masks will be required in the funeral home and those attending are asked to properly social distance. Private family inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Glenwood. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Agnes “Aggie” Elizabeth Schwieters, the daughter of Bernard and Gertrude (Jenniges) Otte was born March 2, 1919 in Sauk Centre Township, Stearns County, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near Sauk Centre and attended Sauk Centre Public Schools. She graduated from Sauk Centre High School in 1938. She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Sauk Centre and after moving to Glenwood belonged to Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Agnes was united in marriage to Raymond Schwieters on September 17, 1940 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church. They made their home in Belle River, Minnesota before moving to Glenwood in 1957. Agnes was employed at Bob’s market for 10 years and then the Glenwood Creamery for 25 years before she retired. Agnes and Ray shared 36 years of marriage before Raymond died in 1976.

Agnes was a member of the Christian Mothers, St. Florence Mission Circle and the Rosary Society. She enjoyed knitting, walking, bike riding, cross country skiing, horseshoes and playing cards with family and friends. Agnes was a big Timberwolves Basketball fan and enjoyed watching their games. She will be remembered for her friendly smile, loving concern for other people and deep adoration of her faith. She was a great mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend who will be missed. When Agnes needed help with her daily care, she moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village in January of 2018. She enjoyed the friends she made there and especially enjoyed the bus trips and riding the two passenger bike. She passed away August 19, 2020 at the Glacial Ridge Hospital in Glenwood.

Agnes is survived by her daughter, Eulalia (Al) Greff of Bismarck, ND;  grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sisters: Catherine Otte of Chula Vista, CA, Lorraine Geer of Sparta, TN, and Thersa Ward of Anoka, MN; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Raymond; infant daughter, Jean Maire Schwieters, daughter, Kathleen Christianson, son, Kenneth Schwieters; infant granddaughter, Connie Hollenbeck; sisters: Hilda Lentz, Rose Schwieters and Monica Farrow; and brothers, Bernard Otte, Richard Otte, Harold Otte and Walter Otte.
