Alan A. Andreasen, age 75, of Glenwood, died at home on Friday, June 23, 2023, surrounded by his family and under the care of Glacial Ridge Hospice. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 8th at Barsness Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6:45 p.m., on Friday, July 7th at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Barsness Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.
Alan Arthur Andreasen, son of Marvin and Lauretta (Martin) Andreasen, was born on April 5, 1948, in Lyons, Nebraska. When he was six years old his parents moved the family to a farm they purchased near Farwell, Minnesota. It was there that Alan grew up along with his younger sisters, Marlene and Deb. He attended school in Kensington and graduated from high school there in 1966. In 1968, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two years in Vietnam before his honorable discharge in 1970.
Upon his return home, on August 29, 1970, he married Donna Golombiecki. The two made their home in the Glenwood area and they were blessed with two daughters, Angie and Stacie. Alan and Donna eventually divorced and he was united in marriage to Sheila Pederson in 1978. They made their home in rural Glenwood and their marriage was blessed with three children, Theresa, Shannon and Shane. Alan and Sheila also divorced and Alan and the children continued to reside in rural Glenwood.
Alan was employed at Donnelly Manufacturing in Alexandria for 18 years before his retirement. It was there that he met his co-worker and soulmate, Maxine “Maggie” Hermes. The two were married at Barsness Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood on April 13, 1996 and Alan’s family grew to include Maggie’s daughter, Marcy. Alan and Maggie made their home in rural Glenwood.
Alan’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, playing cards and cribbage. He was a longtime active member of Barsness Lutheran Church in rural Glenwood and a lifetime member of the Starbuck VFW.
Alan was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year. He died at home under the care of Maggie, their children, and Glacial Ridge Hospice, on Friday, June 23, 2023.
Alan is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 27 years, Maggie of Glenwood; his children, Angie (David) Henke of Glenwood, Stacie (Bill) Rodier of Baton Rouge, LA, Theresa “TJ” (Dan) Hiebert of Montrose, CO, Shannon (Andy) LaBree of Glenwood, Shane (Angie) Andreasen of Brookings, SD, and Marcy (Kevin) Holl of Kensington; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Marlene (Randy Rice) Goding of Oglivie and Deb (Ed Lee) Andreasen of Benson; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Lauretta Andreasen.
