Ardis C. (Erickson) Stone

Ardis Stone, age 96 of Glenwood, died Monday, October 7, 2024 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev. Krista Lee officiating. The service will be livestreamed on the church website glenwoodluthern.com. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 9th from 5:00-7:00 p.m.at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Ardis Corrine Erickson was born on May 3, 1928, in Gilchrist Township, Pope County, Minnesota, she was the cherished daughter of Oscar and Anna (Carlson) Erickson. Raised on a farm in rural Pope County, Ardis attended country school before she and her sister rented a room in a house in Glenwood to attend Glenwood High School, from which she graduated in 1942. Her early work as a waitress at Wimpy's would prove serendipitous; as it was there she met her future husband, Arthur Stone. Ardis and Arthur were united in marriage on June 22, 1947, at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church, and together they built a loving home in Glenwood where they raised their two children.

Ardis's professional life was as varied as it was impactful. She worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses in Glenwood and was Program Review Assistant for the USDA Farmer's Home Administration. After her retirement, she continued working selling Avon. Her dedication to service extended well beyond her professional endeavors, as she was actively involved in her church and numerous organizations. A woman of deep faith, Ardis was baptized and confirmed at Rolling Forks Lutheran Church and was a dedicated member of Glenwood Lutheran Church. There, she served on the church council, participated in WELCA, contributed to the personnel committee, and was part of the altar guild. Her leadership and commitment to service were further exemplified in her active membership with the Glenwood American Legion Auxiliary, where she served as the District 7 president from 1966-1967 and as the Department president from 1995-1996. In her younger years, she also was a member of the Legion Auxiliary Drill team, traveling the state in parades.

Ardis's selflessness shone through her volunteer work. She drove for Rainbow Rider, transporting people across the state to their appointments, and was a compassionate companion to many. Ardis also enjoyed cross-stitching, participating in water aerobics, singing with the Young At Heart group and the church choir, and volunteering for the beautification committee Glenwood and Beyond.

In her later years, after the passing of her beloved husband Arthur in 2001, Ardis found companionship with Chuck Bullock, a widower. Together, they enjoyed many meals, trips to visit family and friends and embarking on bus trips.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa (Larry) Hanson of Prior Lake; her son, John (Jennie) Stone of Glenwood; grandchildren, Karla Stone, Greg (Katie) Hanson, Chris Hanson, and Chad Hanson; and great-grandchildren, Tucker, Tate and Tenley Hanson, Brady Hanson, Lexi and Katie Hanson, Peyten Pedersen, and Hunter Blakeman; as well as one great-great grandson, Armani Blakeman.

Ardis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur; her sister, Donna (Dale) Blair; her brothers, Rodney Erickson, David (Nancy) Erickson, and Donovan, who died in infancy; great-grandson Jacob Hanson; and her companion, Chuck Bullock.
