Audrey Jane (Rasmusson) Norby

Audrey Norby, age 84 of Glenwood, died Saturday, February 29, 2020 at the Glenwood Retirement Village. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 5th at Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church in Terrace with Pastor Brenda Boogren officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the spring in the church cemetery. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood. 

Audrey Jane Norby, the daughter of Clarence and Irene (Larson) Rasmusson was born December 17, 1935 in rural Sunburg, Minnesota. She grew up near Sunburg where she attended country school and Sunburg Free Lutheran Church.

On February 14, 1953, Audrey was united in marriage to Magnus Norby at the Chippewa Falls Lutheran church. They made their home on a farm in Barsness Township, west of Terrace in an oak tree forest. The couple was blessed with four children. Audrey and Magnus milked cows, farmed the land and worked in town.  In 2002, they retired from farming and in 2005, Audrey and Magnus moved into Glenwood. For 65 years Audrey enjoyed being by her husband’s side, Magnus passed away October 18, 2018.

Audrey and Magnus were active members of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church where Audrey was active in the ladies aid and taught Sunday school. Music was such an important part of Audrey and Magnus’s life. They would play together for various family gatherings as well as for the residence at several nursing homes. Audrey enjoyed baking cookies with her grandchildren; shopping, sewing, quilting, going to the café with friends for coffee and visiting with family and friends. She loved to decorate for Christmas and decorated her house from top to bottom along with buying lots of presents for everyone. Audrey and Magnus enjoyed traveling and enjoyed trips to Norsk Høstfest in North Dakota and thrashing bees. Audrey also loved talking Norwegian to anyone who understood. She will be remembered for her kind and loving heart, her zest for life and the love for her family. She will also be remembered for always dressing up with her sparkly jewelry, nails polished and hair done. After a short illness, Audrey passed away February 29, 2020 at the Glenwood Retirement Village.  

She is survived by her children: Marsha (Peter) Danielson of Rosemount, MN, Darrell (Paula) Norby of Alexandria, Marie VanZee of Glenwood, David Norby of Plymouth; 11 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; brother, DeWayne (Ella) Rasmusson of Minneapolis; sisters-in-law, Ann Rasmusson and Sandy Rasmusson; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Audrey is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Magnus, brothers: Charles, Donald, Jimmy Rasmusson; great-granddaughter, Christina Simon; son-in-law, Gary VanZee, her son David’s fiancé, Kelly Westerdahl and sister-in-law, Gretchen Rasmusson.
