Barbara Alice McFarlin Schutt was born on April 28, 1938, in Hebron, IL, the cherished daughter of Everett and Agnes (Gilles) McFarlin. Her family lived in Harvard, IL and Barbara attended school locally. She graduated from high school in Clinton, WI. She was united in marriage to John Schutt, her high school sweetheart on October 12, 1957, at the Baptist church in Walworth, WI. They made their home in Milton, Wisconsin until 1973 when they purchased a farm near Swift Falls, Minnesota. Barbara and John worked side by side, tending to grain and hogs. Barbara enjoyed farm life working with her family and neighbors.
After the loss of her husband, John in 1991, Barbara sold the farm and moved to Glenwood. Barbara's work ethic shone through in her various occupations, farming, driving a school bus, working for the City of Glenwood and working at Tom's grocery store. She also operated the Senior Citizen Center, drove the senior citizens' bus, and helped run the meals on wheels program, touching countless lives. Barbara was a big supporter of the Glenwood Community and enjoyed serving in all her different roles.
Barbara was an avid card player, a lover of puzzles, and enjoyed needlework and crochet. She made beautiful quilts for her family, made with many hours of love. She had a green thumb and had beautiful flower gardens, with petunias being her favorite. Her generous spirit and wit will be deeply missed. She died Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at the Glenwood Retirement Village.
She is survived by her three children: John (Tinna Stevens) Schutt of Beloit, WI, Jeanne (Lawrence) Hvezda of Lowry, and Jeri (Gary) Johnson of Glenwood; her adored granddaughters and great-grandchildren; her brothers, James (Rose) McFarlin of Tucson, AZ and William (Gwen) McFarlin of Darien, WI; and her sisters, Sandra (Ken) Kruckenburg and Shirley (Ted) Arenda, both of Harvard, IL.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; three sisters, Betty McFarlin, Claudine Barsel, and Gail (Lee) Spencer; one brother, Richard (Ione) McFarlin; and a daughter-in-law, Joyce Schutt.
