Betty Rosenau Obituary

Betty Jane Rosenau, age 82, of Glenwood, died Saturday, August 10, 2019, at the Glenwood Retirement Village in Glenwood. A Memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 16th at Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev. Krista Lee officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Hegland Lutheran Cemetery near Karlstad, Minnesota at a later date. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Betty Jane Rosenau, the daughter of Fredrick and Lettie (Park) Rosenau was born at home on February 27, 1937 near Pilot Knob, Iowa. When she was 12, Betty’s family moved to a farm where they raised livestock and crops in St. Croix County, WI. Betty attended school in New Richmond, WI where she graduated from high school in 1955. She was active in choir and it inspired a lifelong love of music. She was not formally trained, but was blessed with a musical ear.

In 1958, Betty attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Golden Valley, Minnesota for a year. She was later employed by Ebenezer Nursing Home in Minneapolis, where she met her co-worker, Mary Warnes. The two became fast friends and eventually roommates. Betty and Mary lived in the Philips district in Minneapolis for 40 years. They worked together in the dietary department at the nursing home, volunteered at the Marie Sandvik Center donating resewn children’s clothing and groceries, and were members of Messiah Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Sadly, Mary was diagnosed with Balbar Palsey disease, a horizontal form of Lou Gehrig’s disease in 1995. Betty cared for her until Mary moved to Glenwood to be close to her sister, Gloria Danter. By this time, Betty was part of the Warnes family and so she naturally followed Mary to Glenwood. Once there, Betty moved into the Grandview apartments and later the Glenview apartments. She was active in the Sons of Norway and a member of Glenwood Lutheran Church. After Mary died in 2000, Betty remained in Glenwood and continued her relationship with Mary’s family.

Betty enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins baseball and was a huge fan. She enjoyed traveling and collecting teddy bears. She will be remembered for her love of music and art. She made handmade cards with original artwork for all of her friends. She had a good sense of humor and quick wit. When Betty needed help with her daily care she moved into the Glenwood Retirement Village, where she passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2019.

Betty is survived by her close friend, Gloria Danter of Glenwood along with other friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
