Brian “Popeye” Dean Simonson was born on January 19, 1966 in Wanamingo, MN. He was the fifth of seven children born to Orville W. and Helen (Simon) Simonson. When he was nine years old, his family moved to Orville’s hometown of Sedan, MN where they helped Orville’s parents operate the family salvage business. Brian was a member of Chippewa Falls Lutheran Church and he attended school in nearby Glenwood, where he graduated with the Class of 1985. From 1983 until 1989, he served in the Army National Guard.

On December 11, 1987, Brian was united in marriage to Sharon Wingert in Glenwood, MN. They made their home in Sedan and were blessed with a son, Matthew, and a daughter, Nicole. In 1996, Brian completed the Truck Driving program at Alexandria Technical College. For the past several years he worked as an over-the-road truck driver for Farmers Elevator in Kensington.

Brian had a big heart, an infectious smile, and “the gift of gab”. He loved to visit with folks and made friends instantly. He was a generous and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

On January 27, 2022, Brian passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in Laredo, TX where he had traveled for work. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
