Bruce Iverson Obituary

Bruce W. Iverson, age 73, of Glenwood, died Saturday, February 26, 2022 under the care of hospice at Mother of Mercy in Albany, Minnesota. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022, at Glenwood United Parish, with inurnment to follow at Glenwood Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. and run until the time of service. Arrangements are with Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home of Glenwood.

Bruce Wayne Iverson, son of June (Kirkwold) and Harlan Iverson was born February 16, 1949 in Glenwood, MN.  He lived all of his life in Glenwood, was confirmed in the Christian Faith at Glenwood Lutheran Church, and graduated from Glenwood High School with the class of 1967.  He continued his education by attending Alexandria Technical School, taking one year of Mechanical Drafting and two years of Carpentry.  He started Iverson Construction with his father in 1968.  They built many beautiful homes in the Glenwood area including his own.  He retired from construction work in 2008 due to health issues.

Bruce married his high school sweetheart, Barb Claussen, in 1968 at the Methodist Church in Glenwood.  They were blessed with 53 years of marriage.  Three children were born to this union: Holly, Amy, and Jeff.

Bruce was a member of the Glenwood United Parish Church.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, putting up wood for winter, jig saw puzzles, watching sports, movies and documentaries, traveling, feeding the birds, and walking in the woods or by Lake Minnewaska and into Barsness Park.  He loved wearing his “be kind” shirts and lived up to the slogan, helping neighbors, working at church, volunteering at United Way Food Drop, and offering a hand where ever he saw a need.  He loved spending time with family, holidays and attending his children and grandchildren’s events.  He was a loving husband, father, and grandpa, and his family was his greatest treasure.

Bruce was diagnosed with cancer of the larynx in 2005.  Complications in the esophagus came about in January of 2022.  He never complained about his illness. He was always thankful for the 16 years he was cancer-free. He passed away on February 26, 2022 in Albany, MN under the care of Hospice.

He is survived by his loving wife Barb of Glenwood; children Holly (Steve) Iverson Hayden, Amy (Mike) Horn and Jeff Iverson; four grandchildren, Kayleigh, Megan, and Carrie Horn, and MacKenzie Hayden; a sister Susan (Steve) Cihlar of Glenwood and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents June and Harlan Iverson; his mother-in-law and father-in-law Fern and Merle Claussen;  sisters-in-law Nancy Zimmerman and Bonnie Tjaden,  and brother-in-law Tim Claussen.

Bruce will be remembered for his kind heart and sense of humor.  He could strike up a friendly conversation with anyone.  Each year when winter arrived he would say, “I wonder if I will ever see green grass again.”   So because of his preference for warmer weather, a Service of Remembrance will be held in the spring.  He fought the good fight. He finished the race.  He kept the faith.  Blessed be his memory.
