When remembering David Jergenson, tears are followed by laughter. David is often remembered as one of the funniest people you’ve ever met.
David left us surrounded by friends and family on October 1, 2024 from streptococcal pneumonia. Born on January 10, 1977 in Glenwood, Minnesota, into the loving arms of Danny and Gwen (Rosenberg) Jergenson. Along with brothers Chad and Jarrid, David flourished in Glenwood- playing tennis and volleyball and finding his career path in the art room. David made friends in his hometown who stayed close to him his whole life. David was magnetic and made friends everywhere he went, as evidenced by the outpouring of love and support.
His true love was found with Dennis Otremba. They were together for 21 years and married for 11 years and are the loving fathers of bright and joyful Sunny. Together, their family enjoyed time at the cabin, live music, house projects, cooking, the pottery world, the outdoors especially the river by their cabin, and many warm, fun memories surrounded by friends and family.
David attended Concordia College in Moorhead, went on to get his Master’s Degree, and was a favorite art teacher at St. Michael Albertville for 24 years and 2 years at Columbia Heights. He always dressed up the day they announced teacher of the year.
As much as he was humorous and the center of everywhere he went, David also had a serious side. He was a devoted and caring husband and father. He was a committed teacher. He was a talented artist. He was a loyal and loving friend. He loved his family. He loved life.
David is survived by his husband, Dennis, and their daughter, Sunny. He is also survived by his mother, Gwen (Jergenson) Hanvy and stepfather Wes Hanvy; brothers, Chad (Teresa) and Jarrid, nephews Jaeger, Dylan, Soren, Thor; niece Carly, other relatives and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his father, Danny Jergenson; aunt, Shelby (Jergenson) Morris; grandparents, Francis and Hazel Jergenson Gilbert and Gladys Rosenberg.
David filled the world around him with laughter, and his memory lives on through the many stories we shared with him. And that, is a life well lived. Thank you, David.
