Dennis John Martinek was born on August 10, 1947, in Glenwood, Minnesota. He was the first of four children born to Harvey and Irene (Simek) Martinek. Dennis grew up on a farm near Glenwood, where he graduated from Glenwood High School in 1965. His passion for mechanics led him to further his education at Alexandria Technical School, where he graduated with a degree in diesel mechanics. His skills and knowledge were put to good use when he entered the United States Army on December 11, 1967, serving his country until he received an honorable discharge on December 10, 1970.

Upon returning from the military, Dennis found employment at Blair Farms in Glenwood, where he remained for 31 years. His expertise and willingness to lend a hand made him a valued member of the community, as he enjoyed fixing equipment for local farmers and taking on diesel mechanic jobs. Dennis cherished his time on the family farm three and a half miles outside of Glenwood, which he lovingly tended and where he built a beautiful life for his family.

In his personal life, Dennis was united in marriage to Shirley Drake on April 12, 1969, in Shepardsville, Kentucky. Together, they had two daughters and shared 24 years of marriage until Shirley's passing on October 11, 1993. Dennis's heart found room for love once more when he married Linda Muzik on June 22, 1996, at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in rural Lowry. Their union brought joy and companionship to his life as well as Linda’s twin daughters, and together they created a home filled with warmth and happiness.

An avid outdoorsman, Dennis loved fishing, hunting, and most notably, duck hunting with his brother, Al. His passion for the outdoors was rivaled only by his dedication to his family. He took great pleasure in weeding and gardening for his wife, but not the dishes, mowing the lawn, and spending quality time with his family. Known as a wonderful "Papa," Dennis relished giving his grandchildren tractor rides on the "big guy" tractor and was incredibly proud of all his children's accomplishments. Dennis was a member of the Lowry American Legion and St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church.

Dennis's interests were a reflection of his loving and thoughtful nature. He was a skilled mechanic who could fix anything, a lover of polka music, and an enthusiastic dancer at the lakeside ballroom, where he had been known to sneak a kiss from his love in the corner. His infectious joy for life and love for his family were evident in everything he did.

Dennis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his wife, Linda Martinek; daughters, Lisa (Allan) Jergenson, Angela Martinek, Shelly (Steven) Scott, and Kelly (Josh) Howe; grandchildren, Sawyer Scott, Oakley Scott, William Howe, Alexis Howe, Brynlee Howe, Owen Howe Haley (Chris) Jergenson and Kimberly Jergenson; sister, Janel (Darrel) Benesh; and brother, Jerry (Marlene) Martinek, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene and Harvey Martinek, brother, Alan Martinek, first wife, Shirley Drake Martinek, and two beloved grandchildren.
