Dennis "Denny" Blom, age 82 of Glenwood died Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at home. A visitation celebrating Denny's life will be on Saturday, October 26th from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood, followed by a graveside service and inurnment at 4:15 p.m. in the Glenwood Lutheran Cemetery with Pastor Katrina Hoffman officiating. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.
Dennis “Denny” Lee Blom was born on July 16, 1942, in Fairmont, Minnesota. Denny was the fourth of nine children welcomed by Raymond and Gertrude (Brockman) Blom. His early years in Fairmont were followed by a move with his family to the Kensington area, where he grew up and later graduated from Kensington High School in 1960.
On November 28, 1961 Denny joined the United States Army. He served his country working as a Track Vehicle Mechanic. He was honorably discharged on October 5, 1964.
Denny was united in marriage to Lana Bogen, and this union was blessed with three children. Though the couple later divorced, they shared the joy of raising their children together.
Denny's passion for mechanics transferred from his time in the Army to his working career starting at John Deere followed by a long-standing position with the Pope County Highway Department, where he served as a mechanic for 31 years until his retirement in 2001. Even after retirement, Denny continued to share his mechanical gifts, working alongside his son at Extreme Auto in Glenwood.
Denny’s life was marked by his love for tinkering. His hands were rarely still, as he found joy in working in his garage and on old John Deere tractors as well as taking care of his yard. Those who knew Denny will remember him as a simple, quiet man—a man of few words but of great skill. His ability to fix and create was not just a skill but a way of connecting with those around him. In his quiet way, Denny made a lasting impact on the lives of those he encountered. Denny died peacefully on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at home.
He is survived by his loving children, Michele (Gary) Koubsky, Michael (Lori) Blom, and Mark (Kathy) Blom, all of whom reside in Glenwood. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Jordan (Kiara Glanzer) Koubsky, Dylan (Reagan Pederson) Koubsky, Ashley (fiancé Dylan Rasmussen) Blom, Madysin Saathoff, and Kyzer Blom; his siblings, Donald (Marvel) Blom, Joyce (Charles) Reigel, James Blom, Sharon Klemm, and Richard Blom, who, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, will miss his presence dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Larry, Roger and an infant brother, Michael Blom, as well as his brother-in-law, Ralph Klemm.
