Diana Schlief Obituary

Diana L. Schlief, age 66 of Starbuck, died peacefully, Tuesday, June 16, 2020, surrounded by her family under the care of hospice at her son's home. A memorial service will be held July 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Glenwood. Inurnment will be in the West Lake Amelia Cemetery in rural Villard. Arrangements are with the Hoplin-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Glenwood.

Diana Lee Schlief, the daughter of Alder and Violet (Wegener) Schlief was born June 1, 1954 in Clearwater, Minnesota. When Diana was young her family moved to Glenwood where she attended school and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1972.

After high school Diana moved to California where she met John Wessel. The two were married and were blessed with two wonderful sons, David and Daryl. The couple moved to Minnesota and later divorced.

Diana was a member of First Baptist Church in Glenwood where she was active in teaching Awana. She greatly enjoyed being a mom and grandmother and loved spending time with her family. Diana accepted Jesus as her Savior and Lord in December of 1984. Her favorite song was “Jesus Loves Me”. In November of 2018, Diana was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She fought the disease with strength and grace, until Tuesday, June 16, 2020 when she passed away peacefully at her son’s home.

Diana is survived by her sons: David (Stacie) Schlief of Danvers and Daryl (Janelle) Schlief of Pen Valley, CA; grandchildren: Harliegh, Savannah, Natasha and Blade; brothers, Warren Schlief of California and Douglas (Evie) Schlief of Glenwood; brother-in-law, Gene (Sandy) Wessel of Ohio; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sharon (Philip) Benjamin and their baby; her former husband John Wessel and his parents, Gus and Rose Wessel and brother-in-law, Jack Wessel.
